Department of Healthcare Administration

The department was established in 2002. We witnessed the considerable impact on the operation of various medical institutions brought about by the changes in the domestic medical environment and the introduction of Taiwan's National Health Insurance system. In addition, the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, affiliated with the Far Eastern Group, was also facing pressure from operational competition, therefore it was hoped that as their neighbor, the department can cultivate core business talents at the middle or the grassroot level. Hence, due to many subjective and objective conditions, the Department of Healthcare Administration was established.

In the department faculty, there are 10 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 4 assistant professors, with 100% of the faculty ratio at the level of assistant professor or above. All teaching staff in the department have practical experience and licenses. The teachers in the field of medical management have work experience from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Management Center, Chung Shan Medical University Hospital, Tungs' Taichung Metro Harbor Hospital, and the National Health Insurance Administration, as well as served as consultants in major hospitals, government agencies, and related associations. In the field of health promotion, the teachers have practical experience in human factors engineering and health care in the medical industry. While the teachers in the field of medical information also have work experience in the bioinformatics industry and licenses above B-level technicians.

In addition, in order to provide students with teaching and research, the department has set up internship (workshops) classrooms, professional classrooms, laboratories, and cloud intelligent simulation teaching areas according to the professional courses. The laboratory software and facilities can provide teachers with a place of teaching, industry-university collaboration, research, student operations, special projects, and practical exercises.

Educational Objectives:

The department incorporates the professional knowledge of medicine, humanities and science to be applied to hospital administration, in order to cultivate medical management practical professionals. The curriculum planning is in line with the development trend of the healthcare industry and the employability of the students in the technical workforce system. Sub-professional courses such as "Medical Institution Management", "Health Care Management" and "Healthcare Information Management" have been set up to foster students' professional ability. As the students' background includes business management group, electrical engineering, and computer and electrical engineering section, students can choose the professional courses according to their interests to strengthen their professional ability and employment competitiveness.

Professional Competency Goals:

Understand the industrial environment and be familiar with the management skills of the relevant healthcare management industry.

Improve planning and implementation capabilities in all areas of health promotion.

Develop professional skills in medical information analysis and management.

Basic management talents with international outlook and humanistic care.

Teaching Features:

In order to strengthen the students' ability to pass license examinations, the department also offers a number of professional certification mentoring classes, which are also open to alumni. Through strengthening the mentoring for students and alumni to obtain professional licenses, it is hoped that the students will be equipped with a more competitive edge when it comes to employability. The course invites a wide range of industry teachers who have practical experience to collaborate in the teaching, in order to strengthen the interaction between students and industry, so as to introduce the practical views of the industry into the curriculum and thereby help students to combine theory and practice. We also arrange for fourth-year students to go to medical institutions for training and observation, enabling the students to incorporate what they have learned and apply them at the internship institution so that they can successfully complete the last mile of learning and integrate seamlessly with the future workplace.
